How to Move a Pool Table Safely and Easily
Your pool table has provided countless hours of friendly (or fierce) competition at home. But now you’re moving or redecorating and are faced with a dilemma: How on earth will you move the pool table to a different location?
With some patience, the right tools, and extra sets of strong, helping hands, changing the location of a pool table is possible. Here’s how to move a pool table so you won’t damage your table or injure anyone in the process.
Instructions
How to Move a Pool Table, Step by Step
Pack the Accessories
Remove all the cue balls from the pockets and pack up all the other small accessories in a box. Unscrew the cue sticks and wrap them in bubble tape or packing paper. Label everything carefully.
Detach the Ball Pockets
If they’re not attached to the rails, they might be stapled or screwed in. Remove the screws carefully—wear safety goggles so you’re not injured by any falling screws or staples if you’re doing this from underneath the table.
Remove the Side Rails
Use your socket wrench to remove the bolts. With assistance, remove the rail and wrap it immediately in bubble wrap or packing foam, then wrap it in a moving blanket.
Detach the Felt
If you're planning to reuse the felt when you reassemble the table, take your time with this next step.
If the felt is glued in place, slowly peel back the cloth without ripping or stretching it.
If the felt is stapled, use a staple remover to remove each one carefully—don’t pull the felt to release the staple.
When the felt is off the table, roll or fold it carefully to avoid wrinkling, then wrap it in bubble wrap or packing foam.
Tip
If the pool table felt is old or looks worse for wear, rip it off! You might as well get it re-felted in its new location.
